No Break for the Tigers

The Towson University Women’s basketball team didn’t get much of a Thanksgiving break this season as they prepared for their game against Loyola on Sunday.

While everyone was at home with families and friends feasting and resting the Tigers were in the gym gearing up for another hopeful victory.

Tanisha McTiller led her team with 15 points for the game.  The Tigers hit their first four shots on the foul line in the game.  However, Loyola was quick to respond and hit 9 points to make the score 11-4 with 6 minutes left to play in the first half.  The Greyhounds kept this lead throughout the first half.

Towson wasn’t going down without a fight and came ready to play with energy and determination after half time.  It was a battle between cat and dog, or more specially, Tiger and Greyhound, as the two teams battled back and forth between points.

It was the Greyhounds who came out victorious with a score of 52-44.

However, it wasn’t all bad news for the Tigers over the holiday break as they took on UMBC on Tuesday before campus closed for Thanksgiving.

Three players scored double figures and Nyree Williams led the Tigers that game with a career high of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Once again the Tigers were quick to make the first score and in the first half left UMBC trailing behind Towson going into half time.

It looked as if UMBC would take the game from Towson when they opened the second half with an 11-4 run that made the score 37-26. One trend that Towson does tend to follow is being able to come back with a little more fire and energy to end the game.

Towson responded to UMBCs sudden catch-up by scoring the next 19 out of 25 points to take a 56-32 lead.

The Tigers won their third straight game with a team effort score of 62-44 over UMBC.

Before the next game on Wednesday, November 28, the Tigers have more shooting and rebounding to practice on.  With percentages still below %50 for shooting and rebounding, Towson needs to make sure all corners of their game are covered in order to ensure a successful season.

The Tigers take on 3-2 Coppin State at the Towson Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28.
